If you want to maintain a youthful appearance for as long as possible, BOTOX can be a great provision. By relaxing your facial muscles, it can cause your skin to have a smoother look. But when should you get started with BOTOX? That really depends on your circumstances and preferences. This blog post may give you an idea of when you should get your first set of injections.
BOTOX for Young People
The minimum legal age for BOTOX Cosmetic is 18, but it is very rare for teenagers to get the treatment. For most BOTOX providers, their patients are in their mid- to late-20s. Although wrinkles at that age should be very few (or perhaps nonexistent), small doses of BOTOX can actually be used as a preventive measure. This proactive approach can delay the signs of aging and cause wrinkles to be less deep later in life.
If treatment, rather than prevention, is your goal, you may find it best to wait until you have visible wrinkles, even when your features are at rest.
BOTOX in Your 30s and 40s
Most people start to develop noticeable fine lines and wrinkles in their 30s or 40s. These lines may stay visible even when your face is completely relaxed. BOTOX can greatly reduce their appearance and may make you look much younger.
If you are in this age range, you may want to start BOTOX sooner rather than later if:
- You have spent a lot of time in the sun throughout your life.
- You are genetically predisposed to wrinkles.
- You have fair skin. (Wrinkle formation usually starts a bit later in individuals with darker complexions.)
- Environmental factors have been hard on your skin. For example, you may have smoked in the past or lived at a high altitude.
Will It Do Any Good to Start Later in Life?
Even if you already have significant signs of aging on your face, it is not too late to start BOTOX. Although it cannot erase deep wrinkles, it can soften their appearance and give you a refreshed look. It can be particularly beneficial when combined with other treatments, such as fillers that restore lost volume.
There is no “wrong age” to get started with BOTOX! If you are thinking about undergoing this treatment, talk to a qualified care provider to find out what it may be able to accomplish for you.
